The Benefits Of Custom Clone Golf Clubs

For a start, the chief manufacturers of clone golf clubs are fully fledged golf companies. Their own research and development departments produce club designs that are manufactured using the same materials as the big OEM's. These clubs include the same design features such as club volume, increased MOI and cavity backs, to name just a few.

Club design is dictated by the rules laid down by the game's governing bodies. Club heads have to conform to these restrictions, otherwise they are considered to be non-conforming and cannot be used in competitive play. That's not limited to the pro tours either. Using a non-conforming driver in your monthly medal could end up in a disqualification.

The top manufacturers of golf clones will submit their clubs to the game's governing bodies for approval (USPGA in the USA, R&A in Europe) same as all the big OEM's. This takes time, resources and is very expensive so nobody selling substandard knock-offs is going to invest that kind of time and money on submitting clubs, only to see them rejected.

Take a driver for example. The maximum volume allowed under the rules of golf is 460 cc for the club to be conforming. It's not sufficient for a maker to say their drivers are less than 460 cc. The USPGA and the R&A have to confirm they aren't. If they are under the limit, they are listed on the Conforming Driver lists. If they are bigger then the allowed maximum, they are placed on the Non-Conforming Driver lists.

A word to the quick here. Some manufacturers of inferior knock-offs proudly proclaim their drivers are conforming by stating their clubs are not on the non-conforming lists. That simply means they haven't been submitted for testing. Conforming drivers go on the conforming list. Just because a drivers is on the conforming list, that doesn't make it conforming.

Designing and creating conforming clubs takes a lot of skill and attention to details. Get the build process wrong by a fraction of a percent and the clubs could well end up being non-conforming. Size isn't the only parameter to take into consideration. With limits on club-face rebound for instance (COR or Coefficient of Restitution) being affected by even a minimal variation in the thickness of the face, quality control is vital.

Clone clubs from the main companies conform to the rules of the game and will be a lot easier on your wallet. Using the same quality materials as the big OEM's and with the same (or better) golf shafts, these are excellent golf clubs that will make the game that much more fulfilling. As an added benefit, many of the top companies offer their clubs with custom fit options.

What you get is a set of excellent, conforming, custom built clubs that will play ever bit as good, and usually a whole lot better, than a set of costly off-the-rack OEM's. And all that without the price tags.

Not a bad deal for a set of custom golf clubs.
