Most often than not, individuals like to read papers to check out the latest current event articles, news headlines and comment and opinion. As, it's the ideal means to keep them up-to-date with the latest happenings all across the globe. However, when we read through newspapers regularly, whether over the internet or by means of real papers, we will come across phrases such as news and commentary. Although, quite often, we disregard what is a news and commentary, and often interchange them with each other, and that is completely wrong by the way. News and commentary are two completely different things, even though they are both forms of writing, it would be best to understand what a news and commentary is and their dissimilarities.
News is commonly defined by a glossary as "a report of latest events or previously unknown facts". Contradictory to it having a "s", it is not a plural noun. So in general, news is completely new. It is what is new. It is what exactly is happening nowadays. However, to be more precise, news is information which is intended for a certain readers. For instance, what happens in Mexico is not really that much of a problem in a far away place, let's say, Africa.
A commentary, are highly-intellectual remarks made by individuals on a specific text or matter. For example, a commentary regarding cholesterol might focus on the types of cholesterol, which is good and bad, and what their dissimilarities are. They are not just some random comments like we find in many blogs these days. Instead, they are highly intellectual and well-thought of remarks which add value to the text, as well as to a news or news article.
News and Commentary work hand in hand in a paper. Without one, the other would exist. However, the paper would not be complete with no informative information and the humorous and entertaining comments.
