Through proprietary formats, as you buy a novel for digital download from Amazon it will arrive in their own file format .AZW that only enables you to read it on amazon's wireless reading device. So if in the future, obviously after you have have checked out all the digital book readers for the latest model at the best price, you then decided you wanted to change ebook readers to a different make, your library of e-books become worthless. Decide for yourself if that's evenhanded or not.

Barnes and Noble's Nook Wireless Portable Reading Device has .Epub assistance, as does the Sony Daily Edition, and so you can download your electronic books from anywhere you prefer, paid for or free, and not solely from the producer of the portable ebook reader , which is the situation with the Kindle electronic books reader.
