Economic times being what they are, most everyone is looking to save money where they can, and this looks like a great tradeoff to me.
Third, bare wood furniture allows you to put your imaginative stamp on it as you finish the piece, rather than getting anything "just like every third house in the country." Express yourself! Be unique! Create something that's real "you."
Fourth, bare wood furniture is more durable. That's as, ultimately, all that pressboard really is not terribly rigid. All wood furniture is as rugged and durable as it's beautiful.
